Mosin Nagant / Balkan refurbed '42 Izhevsk 91/30

A friend of mine picked up this 91/30 about 12 years ago and I grabbed some pics while I visited the other day since it's a little different than most so called Balkan import 91/30s that I have seen. This one had a refurb that is somewhat similar to many M91s that you see from that area.

The stock is covered in a somewhat shiny lacquer type finish. I've had it on a similar 91/30, and have seen it quite a few times on M91s. It's hard, thick and doesn't dissolve in mineral spirits or acetone. There are a couple small stock stamps stamped through the finish. The crest is struck through, and the bolt appears to be Romanian. The rear sight leaf is in the white.

I saw a 91/30 on Gunbroker that had a hideous bubba bent bolt and almost passed it over. Looking closer at the photos, I saw that the floorplate and buttplate matched the barrel and that the bent bolt job allowed the stock to be left unmodified. I threw a $100 bid at it since I have a bolt from a Made in USSR marked bubba parts-gun bought a few years ago and actually won. Since most SCWs, and I had a feeling this was one, don't have matching bolts and my bolt was from an SCW, I feel comfortable fixing bubba's handiwork in this case. Not one other part was messed with in it's time here as far as I can tell, except for the addition of what looks like a refurb cleaning rod. The bore is fantastic.

This rifle turned out to be one of the nicest non-refurbs that I have. Other than light rust that's cleaning right up It looks fantastic. No heavy sanding done to this one. Enjoy the photos.

I believe the hand written 1.05 means $1.05? Crazy this stuff and similar was so low in price and plentiful back then.

You mean these racer?  ;) btw I usually stick over on gunboards but I'll expand my horizon.










And these arn't all I have. The Russian Imperial and that one Finnish round is my earliest for the two countries. I do need some original clips... ::)
