Kar 98 / Re: My BCD is flat-lined

Arent you a reloader? If not that's a route you could go to saving your rifle. Slug and the barrel and select bullets of the proper (oversized) diameter. I don't reload 8mm but it's a .323 bullet. I have an M1917 I had to get stratgic with, it wouldn't shoot .308 168 FJMBT so I slugged it and its .3105 so it's close enough but I had to chase a bullet for it and right now I'm using a 180(?)gr bullet flat battom.
This rifle wouldn't group worth a **** with -.06 surplus or my reloads that I was using in my Garand. But once I altered my tactics and started loading for this one rifle and IT's needs, it groups much better.

IIRC  it was also "self cleaning" in Vietnam, and I'm sure you know how that worked out. So just get the barrel clean and don't do anything else?

You're exposing yourself here as not knowing what you're talking about but you're trying to do that and exposing yourself. Follow along with hash here, you're ratio of asking vs listening and reading is way out of whack.

never stick anything in the gas tube or the gas key...it's all "self-cleaning".

I'm no Oliver Stone fan but I do recall that Platoon was based on his experience in the 'Nam. But going back to Full Metal Jacket, I forget about that one because I usually only watch the front half and pass on the Vietnam portion but I agree its a classic!

Sks Board / Re: What's so special about Albanian sks's?

Not nearly as many made and even fewer were imported. The charginf handle mimics the AK, the handguard is longer for the entire gas tube, and the magazine is shaped a bit differently. They're typically is well worn good condition. I had one, nice rifle, like any other SKS it just has a novelty about it due to the numbers manuf/imported.
