Got a Vietnam "Impression"
« on: August 03, 2013, 11:26:43 am »
I've got one set up, the only big thing missing is an M16. Other than that, it's all set up, maybe I'll get around to taking some pictures, but I'm lazy right now. Anyone else have a set-up with original ****? It's sort of neat because the stuff can be had for not a lot of cash and still be authentic.
"War to the hilt between Communism and Capitalism is inevitable. Today, of course, we are not strong enough to attack. Our time will come in 20 or 30 years. To win, we shall need the element of surprise. The bourgeoisie will have to be put to sleep. So we shall begin by launching the most spectacular peace movement on record. There will be electrifying overtures and unheard-of concessions. The capitalistic countries, stupid and decadent, will rejoice to cooperate in their own destruction. They will leap at another chance to be friends. As soon as their guard is down, we will smash them with our clenched fist."

I have some Vietnam era y-type suspenders, and some H-type suspenders, but most of my stuff is from the 80's.  can't you just get an ar-15 lower and an a1/a2 upper?

I hate AR's with a passion, so no, I'm not going to drop a grand on something I hate/Will never use.

Its too bad that you can pretty much only get an A1/A2 upper on an AR-15 lower or a classic M1A.  Think somebody can make a semi-auto M3 grease gun?

It's an extremely light Infantry set-up with just basic patrol gear. I need a ruck, and a lot more stuff, but I figure it's a decent start. Jungle Fatigue jacket, helmet, pouches, belt, suspenders, bayonet, and boots are all original. Trousers and grenade are new obviously. Claymore clacker is a non-working one just for looks. Weapon is a piece of **** 20 dollar airsoft gun with a 20rd USGI mag in it.

Thank you for sharing, did not know that canteens were supposed to be hooked to the patrol pack, I've always just put them on th belt next to the patrol pack. Would there be a strenght difference of the canvas v.s. the newer nylon materials? I'm afraid that the weight would tear up the ALICE webbing on the sides of it, am I wrong about that?

ALICE is some strong ****. The canteens are whatever, it didn't matter but I was just doing that to add a little room for more pouches.

I'm afraid of ripping the ALICE webbing that attaches it to the belt by putting to much weight in it. Ya know, that old adage "if you take care of your gear it will take care of you," or something to that extent. What's a good weight for the Vietnam era webgear? Mine weighs 15pounds, but thats with everything, full canteens and such.

Lmao the **** won't tear. I've tried it. We had ALICE **** when I went through basic, the stuff is tough as nails. The new stuff is a joke, and will fall apart, but ALICE, I wouldn't worry about.

It can be. The rucksacks are a joke. I just don't like a lot of plastic hardware and MOLLE abuses the hell out of plastic hardware that breaks constantly.

Don't like plastic either, large ALICE pack with a frame is the way I like to go most of the time.  It's super durable and you can carry a lot of stuff that you can't carry with another system. Do you know the internal dimensions of a large ALICE pack?

Not trying to be a dick man, but google is your friend. I understand you are trying to learn and everything, but some questions like this, just punch in to google and you shall learn. Other questions that aren't google-able are what this place is for, but like this, google is your friend.
