Chatellerault 1907-15 Berthier rifle
« on: September 24, 2014, 07:54:43 pm »
I did a little horse trading and was able to score this Berthier 1907-15 rifle for very little cash outlay. I'm just getting into French WW1 arms and learning as I go. I knew this would be a good compliment to my Turkish Forestry Carbine. Ironically I found a Berthier Model 1890 carbine at a yard sale on the way to pick this rifle up. The sale was closing down, and I didn't have enough cash to grab both, but I have the seller's number. I wouldn't mind having all three.

A few collectors far more knowledgeable that I say that it is fairly unusual as far as French rifles go in that it's sporting some trench art/graffiti. No Import marks, mismatched bolt. Stock has no visible serial numbers, and the barrel has no date. The receiver is odd in that the markings originally read 1907-15 Chatty, then they were apparently scrubbed at one point and flipped around to read Chatty 1907-15. I'm not sure why that was done. The stock is well worn, but solid with no cracks. There is no N update stamp. I did find a Circle K stamp that looks similar to the Russian mosin point-of-aim stamp. The bore is really good too. Any feedback is appreciated!
