Type 38 in a one piece stock

After seeing this rifle and it's twin (rack number 02) on the rack at a local shop last year, I was hoping to be able to get one or both before they sold. I had too many other things on my plate until this week. A nice bonus was that the price had dropped a good bit, I was lucky it was still available.  I wasn't able to get both, but a friend scored the other. These were part of a large collection that was sold to the shop by the heirs of the late collector. There was no info that accompanied the rifles, so it's not known how nearly identical looking rifles with rack #s 02 and 03 ended up in the same collection.

No series mark, and based on various online sources the production date must be at the end or shortly after WW1. I don't see and matching numbers, assembly numbers or otherwise. The bore is really nice, and the dust cover was a nice bonus. It's numbered but non matching as well.
